A Very Ugly Bug

A very ugly bug was crawling up the outside of my bedroom window on Friday ...

I just hate ugly bugs.

Kristin and I take a trip into the Shenandoah Valley

The day started out bright and sunny ... it got a bit wet later on. Here we are stopping in Luray, VA for a quick nosh.

That's the southern tip of the Massanutten Mountain in the background. That was, in a sense, our primary destination. There's actually a small valley within that range, completely separate from both the Shenandoah and Luray Valleys. I never even knew it was there until I looked at the area on Google Earth.

We entered the Valley from Strasburg, and then followed the small mountain road up to its end, where it intersected with another small road leading over the range and into the Luray valley.

Here's a view of the Massanutten Valley taken from Google Earth. We entered through that small gorge you can see on the uttermost northern end (closest to the bottom of the picture).

The Luray Valley is to the left, the Shenandoah Valley to the right.

I can see now that there's even another smaller valley way up near the western peaks of the Massanutten Range. We'll check that out some other day.

We stopped for a nosh and to get out of the rain at a small bed-and-breakfast in Luray ... the Woodruff Inn. It was kinda weird.

We had a great time together, though, as usual.
